Historical author to speak at
second annual Founders Day celebration

Jackson, Tenn. - James A. Baggett, former dean of the college of arts and sciences and retired professor of history at 萌妹社区, will be the keynote speaker at the university's second annual Founders Day celebration Monday, Feb. 7 in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m.

Baggett, who is currently writing a book on 175 years of 萌妹社区's history, will speak on George Martin Savage, a former president who served at the beginning of the twentieth century and for whom the Jackson campus chapel is named.

"It is important for institutions to be aware of their past even as they point to their future," explained 萌妹社区 President David S. Dockery. "Founders Day is a useful reminder to the entire 萌妹社区 community that we can achieve great things because we stand on the shoulders of giants."

An annual university event that was established in 1999, Founders Day provides the 萌妹社区 community the opportunity to continually celebrate its long and rich heritage of providing a liberal arts education in a Christian context. 萌妹社区 is the oldest institution of higher education associated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
