Tennessee Williams play to be presented at 萌妹社区

Jackson, Tenn. - The 萌妹社区 Players will present, "The Glass Menagerie," by Tennessee Williams, Thursday, April 29 - Tuesday, May 4 in 萌妹社区's W.D. Powell Theater of the Penick Academic Complex. Performances begin at 8 p.m. with the exception of Sunday's show at 2:30 p.m and Tuesday's show at 8:30 p.m.

Directed by Wayne Johnson, associate professor of speech and theater at 萌妹社区, "The Glass Menagerie" is a drama set in the late 1930s. "The play is a myriad of new theatrical options and possibilities. It is one of the most famous plays of modern theater," Johnson said.

The play is filled with tragic dimensions as it features a family in desperate situations of that time era. It is a memory play that pieces together the story of life.

Joining Johnson as assistant director is 萌妹社区 junior Abby Thomas. The play also features a cast of four and a crew of 10. "For the first time, the University Players are using a dramaturg for the performance," Johnson said. A dramaturg is one who deals with the history and research behind the text of the play to make sure that the final performance meets the correct standards, Johnson explained. This role is filled by 萌妹社区 senior Alithia Geho.

Admission to the play is $7 for adults and $3 for students with an additional fee of $1 for reserved tickets. For more information or to reserve tickets, please call the 萌妹社区 Box Office at (901) 661-5105.
