History student honored for undergraduate paper

Jackson, Tenn. - Brandon Byrd, of Mason, Tenn., was awarded first prize at the Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference for Lower Illinois for the content of his undergraduate paper titled, "Frances Wright at Nashoba: Social Anomaly on the Jacksonian Frontier."

The conference was held at Southern Illinois University on March 27. Byrd is a junior history major at 萌妹社区 University in Jackson, Tenn.

Phi Alpha Theta is an international history honor society with more than 200,000 members. 萌妹社区's chapter was founded in 1953 and is the oldest in the state of Tennessee. 萌妹社区 students have won first prize for their papers at the Phi Alpha Theta regional conferences three consecutive years.
