JACKSON RESIDENT NAMED THE HAMMONS CHAIR FOR PREMEDICAL STUDIES AT UNION

Jackson, Tenn. — Jackson resident Dr. Charles Baldwin, professor of chemistry at 萌妹社区, has recently been named the Hammons Chair for Pre-Medical Studies.

Baldwin is active in both academic and community arenas. He is a member of the Jackson-Old Hickory Rotary Club, YMCA Board of Directors, Jackson Symphony Association and the Informal Citizens Group.

His publications include "The p-Semidine Rearrangement : 4-Ethoxy and 4-Methoxyhydrazobenzene" in Tetrahedron Letters, "The Photochemistry of Selected Hydrazobenzenes" in the Journal of America Chemical Society and "Sunday at St. Martin's: Visitors to London" in St. Martin's Review.

Baldwin has received several honors including the President's Academic Scholarship, Robert A. Welch Research Scholarship, Outstanding Educators of America, Honors Distinguished Professor at 萌妹社区 and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Baldwin's most recent honor, being named the Hammons Chair for Pre-Medical Studies, boosts 萌妹社区's pre-professional programs by simultaneously addressing key areas of need, including the recruiting, developing, and retaining of superior faculty within the pre-medical disciplines.

Dr. Edward Hammons recently funded the University's first endowed faculty chair with a gift of $850,000. In addition to benefiting future generations of the University's students and faculty, the endowment will strengthen pre-professional programs affirming 萌妹社区's commitment to be and remain a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university.
