JACKSON, Tenn. — June 27, 2008 — A record-high 520 new traditional undergraduate students โ most of them freshmen โ registered for fall semester classes at รศรรษ็ว๘ June 27, surpassing last yearโs mark of 506 students.
โWe are extremely thankful for each of these new students, who have come to รศรรษ็ว๘ from this region, from across all parts of the United States and from several countries,โ รศรรษ็ว๘ President David S. Dockery said. โWe applaud Rich Grimm, Robbie Graves and the entire enrollment services team for their hard work.โ
Dockery said the record number of students registering was especially meaningful this year, as รศรรษ็ว๘ is in the process of recovering from a Feb. 5 tornado that caused more than $40 million in damage to the campus and resulted in the demolition of two entire student housing complexes.
โIt is hard to believe where we are in light of where we were 20 weeks ago,โ Dockery said.
Construction continues on 14 new student housing buildings arranged in four new student housing complexes, and รศรรษ็ว๘ expects all 14 buildings to be complete by the beginning of the fall semester.
