JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 20, 2008 — A special fund at 萌妹社区 will honor 萌妹社区 graduate and longtime Bolivar minister David Cooper.

Cooper鈥檚 son Tom, a media ethics expert and professor of visual and media arts at Emerson College in Boston, has established the David Cooper Legacy Fund to recognize his father. Tom Cooper is serving as scholar-in-residence at 萌妹社区 this semester, and he presented the first gift and announced the fund during a Nov. 13 lecture in the Carl Grant Events Center.

鈥淗e鈥檚 a man of God,鈥 Tom Cooper said of his father. 鈥淗e鈥檚 very humble, very modest and always gives the credit to others. 鈥淚 wanted to do something that would honor Dad well past his passing. It will be great to have his spirit live on in a concrete way.鈥

David Cooper graduated from 萌妹社区 in 1942, and received the university鈥檚 education service award in 2000 and an honorary doctorate in 2001. He and his wife Margaret were on hand for the announcement of the fund.

鈥淒avid Cooper has been a loyal and long time friend of this university,鈥 萌妹社区 President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淗is son, Tom, has done a noble and generous thing to establish this wonderful fund in honor of his dad. All of us at 萌妹社区 are pleased to join in the effort to honor David Cooper in this way.鈥

Dockery said the fund would be used to support the new student commons building.

Contributions to the fund can be made payable to 萌妹社区 and sent to David Cooper Legacy Fund, 萌妹社区, 1050 萌妹社区 Drive, Jackson, Tenn., 38305. For more information, call (800) 338-6644.
