JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 21, 2013 — Logan Brasher, a senior music education major at 萌妹社区 from Adamsville, Tenn., was elected speaker of the House during the 44th General Assembly of the Tennessee Intercollege State Legislature Nov. 14-17 at the State Capitol in Nashville.

TISL is a statewide organization formed in 1966 to give college students a voice in state government. The nonpartisan organization convenes a General Assembly each year, held in the Tennessee General Assembly鈥檚 chambers, for students to introduce debate and vote on legislation about state issues.

Brasher will serve as the House speaker during next year鈥檚 TISL General Assembly. In addition, 萌妹社区 senior Colby Benefield was one of 10 legislators to receive a Carlisle Award, TISL鈥檚 oldest and most prestigious award. Junior Morgan Kroeger was appointed as chief clerk of the Senate for next year.

Senior Brooks Brasfield worked as chairman of this year鈥檚 election commission, and junior Jenaye White was chief clerk of the House.

White, Caleb Valentine and Michael Adkisson provided leadership for this year鈥檚 萌妹社区 delegation.

For the first time, 萌妹社区鈥檚 team in the Appellate Moot Court Collegiate Challenge advanced to the finals. In the competition, teams prepare legal briefs and argue cases before the TISL Supreme Court. 萌妹社区 had never made it to the semifinals before this year.

鈥淥verall, I was really happy with the way we performed,鈥 White said. 鈥淲e had a great time and learned a lot, and that鈥檚 what鈥檚 important.鈥
