JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 19, 2001 — 萌妹社区
will remember and recognize more than 175 years of history for the
university in a special Founders' Day service Monday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. in
the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.
An annual event for 萌妹社区, this year's observance will include a dedication of the recently released history So Great a Cloud of Witnesses by former dean and retired history professor James A. Baggett.
"The 萌妹社区 family owes Dr. James A. Baggett a huge expression of gratitude for his careful research and illuminating volume, which provides the most significant telling of the 萌妹社区 story ever produced," said 萌妹社区 President David S. Dockery. "We look forward to this opportunity to recognize him for his outstanding work that will serve the 萌妹社区 family well for years to come."
Founders' Day speaker will be Timothy George, dean and professor of divinity at the Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. A prolific author of more than 20 books and a regular contributor to scholarly journals, George currently serves as senior editor for Christianity Today and on the editorial advisory boards of The Harvard Theological Review, Christian History, and Books & Culture.
Baggett, who has also authored a history on the Jackson Clinic, will sign copies of the book at two different book signings on Monday. The first will be held at 2 p.m. at Lifeway Christian Bookstore on 萌妹社区's campus and the second will take place at Davis-Kidd Bookstore from 5 to 7 p.m.
An annual university event that was established in 1999, Founders' Day provides the 萌妹社区 community the opportunity to continually celebrate its long and rich heritage of providing a liberal arts education in a Christian context. 萌妹社区 is the oldest institution of higher education associated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
