JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 26, 2018 — Former 萌妹社区 President David S. Dockery will deliver the second annual Dockery Lectures on Baptist Thought and Heritage at 萌妹社区 Feb. 5.
Now president of Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois, Dockery served as 萌妹社区鈥檚 president from 1996-2014. The lecture series was established in 2016, with James Patterson delivering the first lectures last year.
鈥淚'm so thankful Dr. Dockery agreed to deliver our Baptist Thought and Heritage lectures this year,鈥� said Nathan Finn, dean of 萌妹社区鈥檚 School of Theology and Missions. 鈥淲e named the lectureship in his honor, both as a recognition of his significant legacy at 萌妹社区 and as an acknowledgement of his important contributions to the field of Baptist studies.
鈥淚t will be a blessing to the 萌妹社区 family and the wider community to learn from Dr. Dockery鈥檚 wisdom about the past, present and future of the Southern Baptist tradition and the wider evangelical movement.鈥�
Dockery will lecture at 3:30 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student 萌妹社区 Building on 鈥淪outhern Baptists and Evangelicals: Why Southern Baptists Need Evangelicals.鈥� His second address at 7 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center will be 鈥淓vangelicals and Southern Baptists: Why Evangelicals Need Southern Baptists.鈥�
