萌妹社区 sophomore elected TISL governor

JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 17, 2008 — Micah Roeder, a sophomore at 萌妹社区 from Earle, Ark., is the new governor of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature.

Roeder was elected to the position during TISL鈥檚 annual meeting of the General Assembly Nov. 13-16 in Nashville, Tenn. Kristin Tisdale, a freshman from Hendersonville, Tenn., was elected by the group as speaker pro tem of the Senate. Fourteen students from 萌妹社区 participated in the event.

鈥淚t鈥檚 pretty humbling,鈥 Roeder said. 鈥淭here are 30 schools from all across the state that participated. It鈥檚 a big honor to get elected. The 萌妹社区 delegation did a really good job as far as helping me campaign.鈥

Roeder served as TISL lieutenant governor last year.

TISL is a statewide organization formed in 1966 to give college students a voice in state government. The nonpartisan organization convenes a General Assembly each year in the state capitol for students to introduce debate and vote on legislation about state issues.

As governor, Roeder said he hopes to increase the quality of TISL and to recruit more colleges and universities to participate.
